Do you want to be able to defend yourself if attacked? Check this post called. “Why Learn Karate.” To see why Abby and I say to try out this sport.
I have a bit of a longer article here, so you know precisely why learning karate is good for you. Ready for this one? Let’s go!
The martial art of karate has been around for centuries, and its techniques are still used in modern self-defense training programs. Learn how to master these techniques and become a better student in your dojo or wherever you want to learn karate.
When we first started learning karate, we both were so confused about what we had to do. So I was thinking about the title of this post too! Why Learn Karate? 🤷♀
So we would talk to our teacher about what we needed to know, and he would explain what we were learning, and we would do our very best to do it right.
What if I don’t think I’m a good “fit” for karate?
The reason I have written this post Why Learn Karate is because learning this skill can save your life! It’s as simple as that.
Suppose you think that right now; I am sorry to hear that. If I am being very honest with you, I (Rebekah) felt that way too.
Abby and I felt like that when we first started this sport. But guess what! We didn’t think that way, and I started thinking about doing karate right when we started back in 2020.
And to this day, Abby and I are still in this sport, and it’s fantastic because you learn different moves and make so many friends from around the world.
So stop thinking that you won’t be good enough for this sport, try it out, and keep your mind filled with positive thoughts as you try karate.
Learn how to block an attack with your hands.
To defend yourself against an attacker, you must learn how to block an attack. This technique will help you protect yourself from being hit by an object or thrown at you.
You can use your hand to block an incoming punch or kick! We will be making some new videos on how to kick and punch. Stay tuned!
In the meantime, check out this video on how to do your punches right.
Learn how to kick someone who’s attacking you.
To learn how to block an attacker, you first need to understand what happens when you’re punched or kicked.
A fist or foot strike usually travels along a straight line toward your body.
As soon as the impact occurs, your body absorbs some of the energy of the blow. And let me get more into this one.
We do so many sit-ups in our dojo but want to know why we do this? It’s so we can take hits on our gut more. No, it’s not because we want to look good in our gi.
We do this to build muscle, and we can handle the blow when someone punches us in tournaments.
If you want to learn more about how to do these karate kicks, check this sensei’s video on how to do a Mawashigeri (Round Kick)
Do I need to be an adult to join?
Not at all; anyone who wants to learn karate can start when they feel ready for it.
It’s not an age thing. I know kids who joined and some older people who train at our dojo, who do excellent jobs with their skills.
Is Learning Karate Fun?
I would say it learning karate is fun if you keep up with it. You don’t do this and get seen by friends and family about how great you are; you’re learning how to keep yourself safe in any situation.
I mean, when Abby and I do karate, we do it because we want to try something out of our comfort zone, and I am not saying karate is the only thing you can learn, but it’s fun!
